AFFTA's National Casting Call and Family & Youth Casting Call

What better way to highlight the importance of fisheries conservation than by spending a day fishing on the banks of the Potomac River at Fletcher’s Cove in the heart of Washington, DC.  The American Fly Fishing Trade Association’s National Casting Call and Family & Youth Casting Call provide a hands-on opportunity for the fly fishing industry and their partners to educate Congress, the Administration and the public on fisheries and aquatic habitat issues.

This annual outdoor event celebrates a precious natural resource and the country’s recreational fishing heritage at a location used by our forefathers and Native Americans for the same purpose – fishing for American Shad.  Shad served as a food resource for many generations, but the fishery faced substantial declines due to overfishing and loss of spawning habitat.  The abundance of shad that Casting Call participants will find today provides a model of conservation success through partnerships that can be used in fisheries nationwide.

Come join us on the banks of the Potomac.  Show your support, do a little fishing and participate in protecting the fisheries we are working hard to preserve for generations to come.
